You can change the world with UX/UI Design. Positively as well as negatively.
We design thousands of websites, apps, and other digital products a year. And what do we get? Slow-loading websites that can’t be opened during train rides. Frustrating online stores where it’s hard to find sustainable products. Emails that clutter our user’s inboxes with hundreds of attachments and images.
Yep, it’s true that the web has a carbon footprint. And that as a UX/UI Designer you can ensure sustainable consumption, mental health, accessibility and a lot more alongside lightweight websites. Much of it with a flyswatter.
Become a highly skilled designer who creates environmentally-friendly websites and apps without sacrificing your creativity
You’ve read hundreds of blog posts and listened to a bunch of podcasts about green web design.
And while you understand the importance of a more sustainable internet, now you want to know HOW to be a part of it. You find yourself wondering:
I feel you. I see you.
These are all questions that I can answer. Because I asked them myself over and over again.
Chic, sexy and highly converting UX/UI Design
Your designs can be anything. Loud. Quiet. Colorful. Relaxed. Romantic. Bubbly. Elegant. Warm-hearted. Serious. Modern. And everything else you want it to be.
Let’s get rid of the mindset of “I can’t do anything cool and modern anymore if it’s going to be environmentally sustainable.” That’s not true. We’re just using slightly different stylistic approaches. For usability, branding and our environment.
With green design, your digital product turns into a super fast oiled machine with an increase in SEO ranking, customers and conversions. How? Because it’s lightweight, more enjoyable for users and attracts the new era of conscious buyers and consumers.
Step by step along the design process
The Green UX/UI Design course comes with a 100% learning by doing approach. Step by step. Guiding you through the design process. Alongside a real or hypothetical project of your choice. It can be a website, an online shop, a mobile or a desktop application.
Prep work: Your values and intention
Outline your personal career intention and big picture vision, identify blocks and negative beliefs that hold you back, plus you build your very own manifesto.
Step 1: Empathize
Get clear on your project’s business requirements, user‘s desires and, most importantly, nature‘s seat at the table. Bring nature into your projects, design and decision processes. It’s one of the most essential steps in greening the web.
Step 2: Envision
Paint an ecologically sustainable vision for the project, brainstorm solutions and collect ideas to meet your grand project vision.
Step 3: Map the journey
Follow your user’s footsteps and map their journey from before using your product, to during and after. Have a look at possible sustainable pitfalls and distill the content into an environment friendly navigation.
Step 4: Architect the UX
Creatively dispel the UX/UI energy monsters and tap into your designer’s power on Design Systems, lightweight design, greener eCommerce, calm design and raising awareness. This chapter includes three fabulous guidebooks with examples and best practices.
Step 5: Design the UI
Apply colors and fonts that conclude in greater energy efficiency. Plus, you’ll learn how to manipulate images and other visual elements in a visionary and artistic data-saving way. This chapter also includes a brilliant guidebook with awesome examples and best practices.
Step 6: Test and iterate
Build way better products by prototyping and testing your designs with actual users. It saves a ton of energy and dev time, and is mind-blowing to experience.
Step 7: Development hand-off
Scale, compress and hand over your design deliverables in the most eco-friendly way possible. You’ll also get a basic understanding of sustainable hosting providers as well as tech and WordPress fundamentals. We won’t get into coding, but we need a good understanding to work with developers.
Step 8: Measure and audit
Analyze and audit the digital product’s footprint as well as other aspects of green UX/UI Design.
Bonus module: Real life
Get ready for real life clients, colleagues and the corporate world. Understand how to sell green design, set healthy boundaries for yourself, run a sustainable digital office, find projects and infuse sustainability into your company and project processes.

Hi, I’m Sandy
Damn, I love this topic! When I heard about green design for the first time I immediately fell in love with it. I’ve worked with big companies like Adobe, Vodafone and more. But this topic finally drew me under its spell.
10+ years in UX/UI and 4+ years in ecologically and socially sustainable design have given me many insights into the design business. This course would be the fast lane for you.
What it allowed me to do? To work with clients I truly admire, such as Petricore as a sustainable hosting provider, to Zero Waste body care, to couples therapy, to women’s health, to many more. Websites, online shops, complex applications, landing pages, name it. All with the feeling of finally following a purpose. Bringing true value to the field.
As designers, we have a responsibility. Our websites shape society. They frustrate or inspire. They have an impact on our planet. And it is this responsibility that I would like to use wisely. With you. Away from User Centered Design. Towards Environment Centered Design.
My vision
… is a green, climate-friendly web with happy users, super fast websites, healthy and loving communication, high accessibility, diversity, green patterns as opposed to black patterns and brands and designers who love their digital products and jobs. In balance with the planet.
Ecological sustainability
Social sustainability
Societal sustainability
Economic responsibility
Ethical standards

Got a question about the course?
What should I choose: the live call or the self-study version?
With the live call supported course version you get access to the full self-study material plus 8 live calls, direct feedback and an extra group chat space. This way you can ask all your specific questions, get more support from me and go deeper into the topic. With the self-study version you get access to the self-study material and a common community space. The self-study material is set up in a way that you can go through the course by yourself and learn tons from it. You just won’t get direct feedback or individual question time from me.
Do I need UX/UI experience?
You know how to roughly sketch, design or build a digital product? Then you’ll get tons out of this course. You might be a web designer, graphic designer, UX architect, UI designer, junior, senior, career switcher or something along those lines. Just a heads up: The course doesn’t explain the basics of UX or UI Design. That means, some experience in digital design is recommended before taking on this course. This way it’s a lot easier to understand the course content.
I currently don’t have a website or app project to work on for this course. Is that a problem?
No, it’s not a problem. You can just select a hypothetical project you’d like to design. It can be an existing website or some absolutely bonkers, out of this world, never seen before, dream project.
Will I have an ecologically sustainable website or app at the end of the course?
Yes and no. We will go through the full process from starting a digital product design, to user and environmental research, to UX architecture, to UI design, to user testing, up to the point of setting everything up for development. You know how to develop your digital product in code or set it up in a CMS such as WordPress? Then you can end up with a fully finished, live ecologically sustainable website or app. I will share a couple of technical advice with you, but we won’t code or discuss tech development in the course.
How can I connect with other designers along the course?
You will have access to a common community space as well as for the live course an extra cohort specific group chat. Both in Slack. Those spaces are there for you to get to know each other, exchange, talk, chat and get support. If you’re in the live course, you will also attend a big welcome session to kick off the cohort together.
Are the live calls recorded?
Yes, the live calls are recorded and will be available for everyone in the live course cohort. If you already know you won’t make it to a call, you can send in your questions beforehand and we will answer them in the live call for you to watch later.
What tools are you using?
You will find templates for Figma, Adobe XD and Miro in the course but you can design and collaborate in whatever tool you feel most comfortable with. It’s your journey and your choice!
Will I keep access to the materials?
Yes! You will keep access to the self-study materials, such as videos and guidebooks without any deadline. Just the live calls and direct feedback is limited to 9 weeks.
When is the course available?
The courses will be ready to book in April 2023. The first 2-month live cohort will start at the beginning of May 2023 and finish at the end of June 2023.
What time commitment is required for this course?
The live course brings you up to speed within 9 weeks with approximately 2 to 4 hours of work every week. Of course, it very much depends on how much you want to build into your design project.
When are the live calls scheduled?
Currently planned is to have the live calls every Thursday at 5pm CET Europe time (11 am EST, 8am PST). The time can be adjusted to the time zones of the cohort members. There will be one week off from live calls in the middle of the course for integration and more time for you to design your digital product.
Can I let my company pay for this course?
Of course! Many companies have professional development funds for their employees. And even if you don’t have an official training budget, sending an email works very well.
Copy this text for your expense email:
